Another Orphan Baby Raccoon

Description

Yes, another baby left alone after the killing of his family. He was tolerated by the family of the other baby raccoon whose parents had been also killed the Summer before. But the male didn't let him go to their den. I did the best I could for him. He has been well fed until October. I cannot bear people who kill innocent animals.
On this photo, I had opened a small window and he came close to me.

Update, October 2016: She has made it through the winter and has had a baby.  :aww:

OMG!!! This is adorable. My mom and I fostered baby raccoons in 2011 and 2016 after either their mama was killed or disappeared. Then in 2020, a mother had her babies in our attic, above my bedroom, but weeks later, they fell into the wall beside our patio. We took the wall apart on the outside and rescued all 4 of them. Put them in a box and left them on the patio. Their mother took them overnight and they were all gone by morning. Sadly, two weeks later, one was hit by a car, a mile down the road. Assuming it's one of the babies we rescued but not too sure since it was quite far down the road. I always feed our birds so not too long after we rescued them, I started feeding the babies and I only every saw 3 babies. The only time before the one was hit by the car; I did see 3 of them and there was another in the grass. I saw the grass rustling but never got to see if it was the 4th baby and then it was hit by a car a couple of days later. Anyway, I fed their mother and 3 babies all summer long. I would even have one baby chase me when I had the bird seed to feed them and the birds. By the late fall, it seemed like all of them, but one had moved on and left. But by the spring of 2021, the baby, who was full grown by then and huge to boot, woke up and I continued to feed him and named him Loki since he was mischievous. I have a metal structure in the front yard for hanging baskets but have some bird fat cages hanging on them. I don't know how he did it, but he took after his mother. She did the same thing in 2020. Somehow, they either climb or jump up and would steal the bird fat. Finally, after one time, the cage was knocked onto the ground and mangled a bit, he must had learned his lesson because it never happened again after that. Anyway, in the spring of 2021, a sibling of his also appeared and originally, I named her Thor but then she has babies so renamed her Thomasina. By the fall of 2021, she left along with her babies and in 2022, only Loki remained. I think later in the year, I did see other raccoons, but I think they were ones passing through and have no idea if they were related to Loki or not. I tried to keep him wild, but he would always come to be for food and would take a banana out of my hand, but I left it at that. As tempted as I was to domesticate him to pet him, I knew that was wrong, so I never made an attempt to pet him. I saw him up until the fall in 2022 and then he went to hibernate. I'm hoping that Loki will reemerge this spring. Quite possible he was the baby that chased me back in 2020. I at least like to think so.
