Kinda reminds me of a Nutria (unwelcome import from South America - non-native species always seem to harm the balance of nature and the native species.)
I have no doubt you are correct to say this is a Groundhog, Nutria prefer watery environments (outproducing Beaver, etc.)

Of the groundhog? I met it along a small lake in Spring...
Actually, there were two of them. I just managed not to scare them. :D
Thank you!

I know we have these, or marmots, a close relative, around here, but I have never seen one. Nice photo, as usual. I figured out your secret--you just have a spirit that gets along very well with animals!

Oh, so sorry, I just found your comment, I don't know how or why this happened...!

Thank you so much for your comment, you are always so kind!
And you have discovered my secret indeed, animals are not afraid of me (I try to communicate with them, in a way or in another)! :D

Haha! I've never seen a ground hog up close! This is quite cute. I didn't know they had such long tails.

They have a tale indeed and very powerful jaws and teeth. We must be careful with them but they are not dangerous.

Thank you very much!

It's hard to go up to a wild animal without scaring it away. I've succeded... once or twice!

Yes, I never walk towards them, they would run away. I stay still (sit on my feet) and try to call them...
Thank you for your comment!

Your welcome! I kind of whisper all those calm and reassuring things until they seem comfortable, then I get closer. We, as people, never do that. And if you think about it, we are just animals like them, so it's interesting how we all react to each other. Sorry if I'm boring you with my philosophy!!

You are so right, human beings are not sometimes as friendly as animals are. I love to meet animals and to be able to communicate with them (sometimes).
We are animals just like they are indeed!

Agree!!!! Now communicating with them...is, in a way, easier. They don't run away if you talk or something.

Thank you very much!

Earth squirrels? Interesting! :D
Maybe you know that squirrels don't live in a hole like groundhogs, they are nesting and don't hibernate.
And groundhogs are really big and heavy animals.

:D interesting info, maybe they got their name from looking like squrriels a bit :D

Both of them are rodents, maybe this is why... :D
Your squirrels are quite different from ours as far as I know though, they might have a different behaviour.
